A Vampire Fanatic!

This is another post, not dissimilar to my mid week post 'A Werewolf Leads'. It's in relation to the current giveaway I have happening on the blog - the 'November Follower Frenzy'. Basically I'm celebrating the recent release of my book The Hunted, the first in a series of five with the second to be released early 2012. I wanted to give everyone a chance to weigh in on my favourite supernatural entities and give you just a little bit of insight into my long held love of the inherently creepy.
So, without further ado, I'm going to run with the same traits I worked with my werewolves, and see if I can't think of a vampire to match each one. Here we go;

30 Days of Night

1. Hybrid Vampires - The best one I can think of is Blade. Besides being totally awesome, he's a serious bad ass. And, not only can he rock leather, he can kick ass in the daylight.

2. Freaking Scary Vampires - Vampires in general can be pretty damn scary, but I've never been able to forget the vamps from the movie 30 Days of Night. Although there's nothing that especially differentiates them from the standard characteristics, those suckers (pardon the pun), don't give up pillaging for thirty straight days! I think by day two, after wetting my pants on several occasions, I might have just walked outside and said 'I freaking give up.'.

3. Female Vampires - Well, there are a lot of them. But I have to say that I'm a fan of Alice from the Twilight Saga, mostly because she never complains about being a vampire like the rest of them do. Plus seeing the future wouldn't be so bad. At least you'd see the stake coming.
There's also Anita, from the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series by Laurell.K.Hamilton. She may not be a traditional vampire, but she makes sexy and bad ass seem like a hobby I want to commit to.

I also can't discount Claudia from Interview with a Vampire. How genius to make a child into a blood drinking fiend! No one suspects the innocent *rubs hands together* she could kill everyone and you'd still buy her candy.

4. Super Hot Vampires - Where to begin? There are so many I'd let sink their fangs into me that I'll try and keep this brief and ... clean. Eric Northman from True Blood, Asher from Anita Blake Vampire Hunter novels, Mircea from the Cassie Palmer novels, Acheron from the Dark Hunter novels, Lestat from Queen of The Damned, Black Hat (AKA Karl Urban) in Priest and ... Yeah, clearly I like a lot of different men ... ehh ... vampires.

5. Woe Is Me Vampires - The Cullen clan from the Twilight Saga and Stefan from Vampire Diaries. Boo hoo. You're a vampire, you're supposed to drink blood - get it into you and not the vegetarian variety.

6. Boring Vampires - The Master Vampire in Salem's lot. I haven't read the book, I was truly worried it would be as boring as the film. But I'm calling this lackluster vamp out because he spent the first two hours of the movie locked in his box and the last one hour just hissing at people.

7. Vampires You Wish You Could Assassinate - Bill from True Blood - Bad hair, pasty skin and serious Sookie issues. Put a stake in my hand and I'll show that joker the meaning of true death.

So that's my vampire list, but truly, I could have added a lot more to each category, especially under Super Hot Vampires, but I suspect I don't get out enough. Anyway, this will be my last post in relation to the November Follower Frenzy, as the next post on Wednesday will be to undoubtedly announce the winners! This week's Question: It's Thanksgiving day in the US, so we want to know what you are thankful for - blogging related of course. Who has helped you out along the way? What books are you thankful for reading?


Answer: You know, it surprises me how many wonderful people there are out there that support my writing and of course, my blog. To start with I have to thank Holjo at www.pedanticphooka.com She was the very first blogger willing to support my book The Hunted, including buying her own copies to review and put in a giveaway!

A werewolf leads ...

In keeping with my November Follower Frenzy Giveaway, I'm going to do a post about my favourite werewolves in books and in film. This brilliant idea came to me last night when I realised that my 'Hunted Series' is full of werewolves, or as I like to call them Vanators!

Anyway, my fictional beasts are pretty bloodthirsty and are often shape-shifting into the human beings they've most recently fed from. They aren't at all interested whether or not they have an eight pack or pretty blue eyes - they're all about the blood and sex.
So in good humour, I thought I'd think about one werewolf that matches every personality trait I can think of. Well, at least until I get bored and give up. Anyway, here we go;

Michael Corvin

1. Hybrid Werewolves - Remus Lupin from 'Harry Potter'. You gotta love a wizard who also moonlights as a werewolf. There's also Michael Corvin in 'Underworld', a vampire cross werewolf blend. He also comes under the category of 'super hot werewolf', but I'm trying to streamline here.

2. Freaking Scary Werewolves - Any of the damn wolves in the movie 'An American Werewolf in Paris' generally make me cringe at the screen, talk about no remorse ... bloody good entertainment (pardon the pun)

3. Female Werewolves - I adore the Riley Jenson novels by Kerry Arthur. There are nine in the series all together, and though I suspect most of my draw to the series is the rudie bits and trash talk, the violence is pretty damn awesome too. Go the kick-ass promiscuous girl with an aversion to silver!

Van Helsing

4. Super-hot Werewolves - Okay, since I'm Aussie, I'm sticking with my home turf, though I doubt many of you would disagree. Simple answer; Hugh Jackman in 'Van Helsing'. Okay, so he might only be a bad ass werewolf for a microsecond in the film, but it was enough to make me want to pet him for life. Also, I'm not going to discount Alcide from True Blood.
Deep voice - check. Super hot freaking gorgeous body - check, check. Would I let him bite me - um, hell yes.

5. Woe is Me Werewolves - Jacob Black from 'Twilight'. Sorry to the Team Jacob fans, but God damn, books or movie, it really doesn't matter. Someone needs to dart that wolf and hose him down - plenty more Bella's in the ocean! Have you ever seen someone with a glistening eight pack looking so unhappy? Please, somebody give the boy some chocolate!

6. Boring Werewolves - That has to be Lawrence Talbot in the remake of 'The Wolf Man'. Never have I been less entertained, sitting in front of the telly, slapping my knees and praying for decent bloodshed. Yes, I may be slightly disturbed, but lordy lordy lets put those claws and teeth to good use. I'm even okay with it a little slap and tickle as long as the damn wolf does something!

7. Werewolves You Wish You Could Assassinate - Easy answer here is Richard from Laurell.K.Hamilton's 'Anita Blake' series of books. Now, I love these books to death, again filled with plenty of action and plenty of ... trysts. But boy what a whining werewolf he is! I personally have a shotgun loaded to blow a hole in the middle of the next book if he pulls another 'emo' stunt again.

Anyway, I'm curious to know what werewolves you love or hate, or just which ones you want to roll around in the grass with. I'm sure there are million others out there that I haven't thought of, but leave a comment - I'm almost positive I'll have an opinion.

Interview with Lucas Manory

Hi, Lucas, thank you so much for stopping by the blog today, especially in light of my current giveaway 'The November Follower Frenzy'! I think interviewing you while organising a give away of The Hunted is very apt under the circumstances.
LM: No problems. Supporting the book in which I play a major supporting role seems like a really good idea to ensure I get more action in the next few books coming.

Lucas, I can assure you that you have a very large role in the next book. Actually, you have a major role in all five books.
LM: *Sighs with relief* Well, that's good. I was starting to think that the Vampires were going to get all the action. *Wiggles eyebrows at me* In more ways than one if you know what I mean ...


Yes, following you loud and clear, Lucas. And with The Hunted's release, how would you say life has changed for you?'
LM: Honestly? Everything has changed. Things aren't quite right with my parents, and Elena? Well, we all know she has a lot on her plate at the moment. I'm trying to convince her to change her mind about a few of her recent decisions, but I can't exactly let on that I have my own issues that I could really use her help sorting through.


And why is that?
LM: I'm her big brother. It's my job to protect her even if she can self-heal and apparently kick my ass. For the record, I would just like to remind everyone that although I may look weedy, I can hold my own. Plus, how many guys can shoot fireballs from their fingers? I am one bad ass Protector with an ever increasing magical repertoire and a big ...

*eyes widen* Thanks for that, Lucas. Just another quick question. Do you think the Institute of Magical Intervention have bigger plans for you?
LM: You mean besides dissecting Elena? *Scoffs* Of course they do. Do they think I'm stupid? I've been mastering my magical skills from a very young age. I'm pretty sure the other Protector kids aren't as advanced. *Rubs his shoulder, looks at me pointedly and frowns* Do you think my scar has anything to do with it?

At this point I have to steer Lucas in another direction. He's getting too close about revealing too much information from the up and coming release of The Damned.


So, Lucas, finally I'm just going to fire off a few quick questions to wrap up this impromptu interview
LM: Hit me.

Favourite Colour: Blue. It goes with my eyes.
Favourite Song: I like trance and dance music. I don't have favourites. Maybe I don't care enough to have one. *shrugs*
Favourite Movie: I like the Simpson's movie. *chuckles to himself* Spider Pig, Spider Pig ... such a classic.
Favourite Book: I'll say 'The Hunted' because I'm in it, but I suspect I might like the fifth one in the series best 'The Delivered'. *Shrugs* Or I suppose whichever one it is that I might actually get laid.
Favourite Holiday Destination: I've never really been anywhere. I lead a sad, sad life. I suspect at this rate I'll never get laid, *shakes head at me* despite all of your promises to fix me up with a hot blonde.
Right, I get it - you want to get laid. I'll see what I can do. Supposing I don't come through for you, if you had to pick someone famous, who would it be?
I'm not fussy. Just open a Playboy magazine anywhere and point.

Okay, so I let Lucas go. He was eyeing off my bathroom door and the tube socks drying on my dining room table like he had a pressing date. Needless to say I'm going to have to get writing before he starts complaining that blue is not his favourite colour due to certain appendage congestion.

This week's question: Letter to Santa: Tell Santa what books you want for Christmas!

Answer? In truth, I'm pretty damn excited about reading any supernatural or YA fiction. Books in general make me very happy, but if I had to choose, it would be for Santa to deliver my own book 'The Hunted' down everyone's chimney. Then they'd fall in love with the series as I've done and be super excited about the early 2012 release of 'The Damned'.
