Happy Friday
everyone!
Yes, it’s that
time of week again where bloggers unite to participate in the Follow Friday
venture. The idea behind #FF is to promote traffic to your own blog, make new
friends with other like-minded bloggers and discuss new and interesting topics
each week.
Participating is
simple. First you need to follow my blog because I’m totally awesome, then you
can follow me on Twitter @kristyberridge (actually you don’t have to do this,
it’s wishful thinking), but do follow my blog or assassins will get you …
Then you must
follow our illustrious hosts Rachel of http://www.parajunkee.com/ and
Alison of http://www.alisoncanread.com/
If
you want more details on how to enter your own blog in the follow and hop, all
directions are on their webpages
Now, once you’ve followed, check out my answer to
this week’s questions and don’t forget to leave a comment so I can do the right
thing and follow you back!
This week's question: What writing device or trick most irritates you when reading a book? For example, if an author employs an omnipotent narrator that is sometimes considered bad form.
My answer: I can happily tick off the irritation box on all the things that the Ya Bookworm Blogger suggested on Parajunkee's blog. But for me, my biggest pet peeve is the injection of new information deemed convenient to keep the plot moving forward.
For example a boy is just a boy, then suddenly he's a boy with the ability to time shift because it's convenient for this character to suddenly be somewhere else. Then suddenly this boy can shift time and shoot fireballs from his ass. I'm just saying, the injection of super powers or forgotten information into the story to resolve the unexplained is just plain annoying! Authors - consider your plot from beginning to end and don't leave loose ends unless it's a lead into the next novel!!
Gah, okay, said my piece. Have a super weekend.
Kristy :)
Hahaha, you are hilarious and right by the by. I did check my fridge, but my chocolate was still there. Not as much as I remember putting in there though.
ReplyDeleteWhat irritates me most? The constant repeat of things, as if I suffer from short term memory loss. Please author there is no need to keep telling me where, or when, or even who. I've read it, I know. Or those characters that can't stop yapping about how great they are. And please author show me the actions instead of telling me how I should imagine them.
Oh, shoot, it seems I'm on my rambling nitpick chair again, quick somebody give me coffee and chocolate cake to shut me up and put me right back into my happy place.
I don't think I've come across that too much myself, but I think that would bug me as well. As an aspiring writer I do try to avoid that by incorporating hints or other instances to when a certain power or action is needed.
ReplyDeleteHere's my Follow Friday
Have a GREAT weekend!
Old Follower :)
Hi! New follower here. That was great advice you gave to authors about planning your plot from beginnin to end and not just throwing something in to move the plot forward. Well said ;)
ReplyDeleteAlso, if you're interested I'm giving away a Kindle or Nook (your choice) on my blog and there are only 5 days left to enter!
Peace & Love
