Follow Friday #57

Happy Friday everyone!
Yes, it’s that time of week again where bloggers unite to participate in the Follow Friday venture. The idea behind #FF is to promote traffic to your own blog, make new friends with other like-minded bloggers and discuss new and interesting topics each week.
Participating is simple. First you need to follow my blog because I’m totally awesome, then you can follow me on Twitter @kristyberridge (actually you don’t have to do this, it’s wishful thinking), but do follow my blog or assassins will get you …
Then you must follow our illustrious hosts Rachel of http://www.parajunkee.com/ and Alison of http://www.alisoncanread.com/ If you want more details on how to enter your own blog in the follow and hop, all directions are on their webpages
Now, once you’ve followed, check out my answer to this week’s questions and don’t forget to leave a comment so I can do the right thing and follow you back!

This week's question: What is your guilty pleasure as far as reading? Is it a genre, or is it a certain type of book?

My answer: Okay, no real surprise here, but I love a bad boy, someone you want to slap around, but also secretly long to pull against your ...
I also like hardcore action and descriptive violence. I want to be able see vivid imagery dripping from every written word.

This week's question: Activity! Hopefully warm weather for most of us is here soon…so tell us about your favorite outdoor reading spot. Or take a picture.

My answer: Well, I live in Far North Queensland in Australia, so I say f@#%k sitting outside at this time of year! It may be approaching winter down under, but that simply means I no longer have to wring my underwear out after a long day of ninety percent humidity.
In short, I don't read outside. In fact, I don't really go outside unless I'm running from one air-conditioned area to the next. Reading is much better executed on a comfy cushion, under a fan in a contained environment where flesh is no longer in danger of melting from bone. Yes. I may just live inside a volcano.

Q: Happy Mardi Gras! If they were throwing the HOTTEST books off of a Mardi Gras float — what would you do to have them throw to you…?

My Answer: Well, truthfully, I love books and adore reading. So, if a Mardi Gras float full of sparkly men and bejeweled women were throwing some of the best paranormal reads in my direction, there really isn't much I wouldn't do. Yes, I would swing my t-shirt over my head and show off my Christmas baubles. I'd bend over and show them what I had for breakfast and I'd probably blow saucy kisses at everyone, but I absolutely, completely, totally draw the line at paying for hastily thrown novels.
Kidding. As if anyone would want to see my floppy bits anyway. And, have you actually had someone throw at book at you before? It blood well hurts, so I say dodge and run and crawl back later for the gutter leftovers.

THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU WOULD DO IF YOU WOKE UP TO FIND YOURSELF IN YOUR FAVORITE BOOK?

My Answer: Well, since my favourite books-to-date are written by Stacia Kane, I'd probably sh#$t myself. Why? Because The Downside Ghosts series are all about creepy rituals, magic, violence, murder and a shady drug trade. I'm just not cut out for that sort of thing, although, I wouldn't mind a little wander around Laurell K Hamilton's books just for the super hot guys and no apology policy for blowing someone's head off that seriously pisses you off.

This week's question: What is the last book that kept you up late into the night just to finish it?

My Answer: The Fifty Shades Series
Honestly, this series really spun me out. I've never read anything quite like it and I just had to know how it would end, if the characters would remain consistent or if everything would change.
But I lie.
I was as morbidly fascinated with this seemingly taboo subject matter as everyone else.

This week's question: Who is your favourite villain from a book?

My answer: See, this is a tough one because I always like the bad boys or those really crazy nasty people that make the story that much more colourful with their twisted perception and nefarious agendas.
Though not especially villains, I'm quite partial to the constant derailment of Jean-Claude in the Anita Blake vampire series and Christian Grey from fifty shades - no one likes to always read about the straight-laced good guy. Boring ...

This week's question: WHAT IS THE LAST BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY? TELL US ABOUT THE SCENE…

My Answer: It's actually an Indie book I read recently called "Impossible" by Komal Lewis. It was an emotionally charged moment between the two protagonists, the bonding over the death of someone they both loved and respected. I definitely got a little misty which I wasn't expecting, and yet, loved the fact that another author could do that to me with only words and they images they created!

My answer: Truthfully, my character Elena Manory from The Hunted Series is pretty much me as a teenager but with a set of big, brass balls. While writing, I just kept thinking to myself, what would I do? What would I say? I don't think I planned it that way, it's just that this five book series is very close to my heart and I couldn't help but inject a bit of myself into it.

This week's question: Are you thankful for a fellow blogger? Tell us about him or her.

My answer: This is hard because I love so many people in the blogging world. It still blows my mind how helpful and sweet the relative strangers of this interconnected world of internet communication are. I sometimes think that most of my advertising support for my writing career comes from the word of mouth from my blogging buddies.
So I have to give a shout out for Miss Arianne Cruz of Romantic Maidens Blog Tours and her own personal Site, Arianne Cruz. Not only do I get constant support from this girl, but she also offers me opportunities to blossom in the blogging world - Thanks Arianne!

Happy Friday everyone,

This week's question: What is a deal breaker for you in a book? For example, do you abhor love triangles? Or can’t deal with bad editing?

My Answer: A shitty story line with so much irrelevant internalising or pointless plot that I want to shove a tooth pick in my eyeball. I hate that some books make me skip whole pages in favour of getting back on track, or worse still, you skip several pages and have missed absolutely nothing at all - a fair sign of a waffler!

This week's question: What writing device or trick most irritates you when reading a book? For example, if an author employs an omnipotent narrator that is sometimes considered bad form.

My answer: I can happily tick off the irritation box on all the things that the Ya Bookworm Blogger suggested on Parajunkee's blog. But for me, my biggest pet peeve is the injection of new information deemed convenient to keep the plot moving forward.
For example a boy is just a boy, then suddenly he's a boy with the ability to time shift because it's convenient for this character to suddenly be somewhere else. Then suddenly this boy can shift time and shoot fireballs from his ass. I'm just saying, the injection of super powers or forgotten information into the story to resolve the unexplained is just plain annoying! Authors - consider your plot from beginning to end and don't leave loose ends unless it's a lead into the next novel!!
Gah, okay, said my piece. Have a super weekend.

This week's question: When you step out of your USUAL genre what do you like to read? Best books in that genre?

My answer: Well, I must admit that I never really step outside the supernatural genre. There's just something pretty special about diving into the world of horror and make believe. I never seem to get sick of vampires, werewolves, magic, angels or demons - probably why I write books paying tribute to my passion.
So, with that being said, the most recent jaunt outside my comfort zone was immersing myself in the world of ChickLit - books about romance, girl talk, shopping and moral dilemmas. Think Sex in the City!
And, I've recently read an author's debut novel called "The Seven Steps to Closure" by Donna Joy Usher. With quite a few laugh out loud moments and an endearing protagonist, I can honestly say I thoroughly enjoyed this ChickLit jaunt. You can read my review here!

This week's question: What do you hope to accomplish with your blog? Is it to one day become an author yourself, just for fun, maybe get some online attention, or maybe something very different?

My answer: Truthfully, I just think it's great to have a voice that people actually want to listen to. It still boggles my mind that people actually care about what I have to say (even when rambling crap).
I am an author, so a blog is great exposure, but I also very much like to read and appreciate the written word of others, posting reviews that are fair and impartial.
Oh yeah ... and thanks for stopping by my blog and promoting it further - have a ripper weekend!

Moving Day

Well, this is my first personal post in a while, what with the hype of my latest book about to be released, the Follow Friday venture and all the reviews I've been doing lately. Alas, I thought I'd have a lot more to report but I really don't, what a boring life I must lead ...
Anyway, it's moving week at my house. I have just seven days to pack up all of my crap in a few cardboard boxes and shove it into a shipping container due to be delivered early next week. Now I wish I could say that it was because I was moving somewhere exotic, but in reality, I'm moving to a cheap-ass hotel down the street.
Why?
The insurance company finally paid up!
Do you remember about a year ago, after cyclone Yasi when I was complaining about a leaking roof, moaning incessantly about the tarpaulins covering my house like a giant tent in the middle of suburbia? Well, hard fought and won success is in my hands (thanks to hubby) and we are getting a new roof and the entire interior repainted!
I know, I'm still jumping up and down excitedly. I've been glancing ominously at the ceiling for well over a year, expecting each torrential downpour to join us in the living room. I have questioned imminent electrocution every time water dribbled from the bathroom light fixtures and reached for a gazillion Chinese containers to catch the freak rainstorm in the kitchen. Needless to say that relief is only one word that comes frequently to mind.
So now hubby and I have to move out while the house gets a well deserved makeover. The boxes and cello-tape are crowding my living room and yet I don't have the foggiest idea where to begin. I've been wandering around like an aimless idiot, lovingly stroking the spines of my books and other treasured possessions, simply incapable of shoving them into a box and out of sight.
Plus there is the whole fear of having to unpack everything. I'm not talking about re-organisation, I'm too OCD not to enjoy that part, I'm referring to the disgusting, crawling, creepy little bastards that somehow snake their way into your belongings and jump out and surprise you whilst unpacking.
I'm talking about cockroaches!
Anyway, I have to run, the mere thought of their little feelers and and crunchy shells and quick moving legs make me want to barf. I hate the little f@#%kers. So wish me luck, I'll let you know how it goes.

Have a good one,

Kristy :)

This week's question: What hyped up book do you think was not worth all the talk?

My answer: Well, I've said this before and I know it's an exceedingly unpopular answer, but for me, it was 'Shatter Me' by Tahereh Mafi. I did enjoy the book but there was definitely nothing especially WOW about it for me. (Check the review here)

My answer: I'm reading 'Sin' by Shaun Allan. I like to support the indie authors where possible and help out with decent, honest reviews but I'm only about 10% in at the moment so it's hard to judge - I do love the cover image, though.
Alas, I wish I could read multiple books at once but I feel like I'm cheating on my literary companions, so I don't. I call it total devotion to the written word LOL!

My Answer: I'm copping out here, but I can't really think of one! I haven't really adored a cover in ages, and if I have been drawn to one, the story's usually been good as well.
I guess, if I had to pick something, I was curious about 'Shatter me' based on the striking cover image and all around hype surrounding the novel at the time. Alas, the book was a little lackluster for me. I suspect I may just be a little unpopular for saying as much. Sorry!

This week's question: Worst cover? What is the worst cover of a book that you've read and loved?

My answer: This is easy - The bloody Twilight saga. I mean seriously, what the hell does a hand holding an apple have to do with Twilight (despite one fleeting moment where Edward kicks the crap out of one by the salad bar in the movie)? And for New Moon's book cover - a droopy flower? Then we have a cheap ass ribbon for Eclipse and chess pieces for Breaking Dawn.
I still shake my head at those covers - talk about a lazy graphic designer.

Anyway, since you're all over here nodding your heads in agreement, why don't you check out the competition I have running at the moment? Follow this link (click here) and it will take you to my "Damned good Giveaway". If you're not keen on the whole entering via photography, that is fine, you can still enter via raffle-copter and be in the chance to win, it's easy as!

Have a great weekend all, and don't forget to check back tomorrow night, I'm going to have an absolutely awesome competition starting for those of you that are fans of my 'Hunted Series'.
