Happy Friday
everyone!
Yes, it’s that
time of week again where bloggers unite to participate in the Follow Friday
venture. The idea behind #FF is to promote traffic to your own blog, make new
friends with other like-minded bloggers and discuss new and interesting topics
each week.
Participating is
simple. First you need to follow my blog because I’m totally awesome, then you
can follow me on Twitter @kristyberridge (actually you don’t have to do this,
it’s wishful thinking), but do follow my blog or assassins will get you …
Then you must
follow our illustrious hosts Rachel of http://www.parajunkee.com/ and
Alison of http://www.alisoncanread.com/
If
you want more details on how to enter your own blog in the follow and hop, all
directions are on their webpages
Now, once you’ve
followed, check out my answer to this week’s questions and don’t forget to
leave a comment so I can do the right thing and follow you back! This week's question: What is a deal breaker for you in a book? For example, do you abhor love triangles? Or can’t deal with bad editing?
My Answer: A shitty story line with so much irrelevant internalising or pointless plot that I want to shove a tooth pick in my eyeball. I hate that some books make me skip whole pages in favour of getting back on track, or worse still, you skip several pages and have missed absolutely nothing at all - a fair sign of a waffler!

Rant alert!
ReplyDeleteBad editing, repeats, when the author insists on telling me what I'd rather be shown. I want to be submerged in a book, not be told how I should imagine it to be because the author tells me everything. Oh, and you know what? I have braincells and am perfectly capable of remembering how, what and where. No need to keep reminding me. Thank you very much.
Typo's, SPaG, bad editing, and did I mention repeats? And telling instead of showing? And I'm sorry, but I'm a stickler for bad editing and repeats, but I said that already, didn't I?
So, there you have it. Pleaaase make sure your book is not riddled with SPaG, typo's, and bad editing, oh, right, been there already.
End rant.
Scurries off to do some more editing and check the formatting on her own stuff. Good thing I went for a professional editor. At least I've got that end covered.
Evil twins.
ReplyDeleteLet me say that twice.
Evil freaking twins!!!
I haven't encountered too many books like that. But it would drive me up the wall as well.
ReplyDeleteHere's my Follow Friday
Have a GREAT weekend!

Oh dear, skipping pages is never good ...
ReplyDeleteLOL on the skipping pages and missing nothing. I've run across a few of those lately. :)
ReplyDeleteBad editing is definitely a deal breaker. I've run across books that everyone is raving about and yet I can't get past the first chapter because the editing is so bad. Also, I'm sick of virgins. If I have to read about another virgin (that's not young adult) I'm gonna scream. Ditto in the happy endings that wrap up all neat. A little reality goes a long way with me.
